Maternity Services Support

We currently support Wiltshire Maternity Services by providing the following:

Training

We supplement training provided by Joe Griffin of the Human Givens College by providing follow-up short training courses to community and hospital midwife teams. We provide a series of short workshops such as: Working with Families, Looking at Needs, Improving Emotional and Mental Health, Dealing with Stress and Difficult Situations, Mental Health Labels and Substance Abuse, Improving Language Skills. Feedback from our workshops show that these are greatly appreciated by the Midwife teams.

Therapy

We also take referrals for mothers or mother-to-be in one-to-one counselling sessions. This is typically for women who have a high degree of anxiety around issues of childbirth - but can be for any reason. Read about our approach (a form of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) which is fully compliant with guidelines issued by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Women who have experienced psychosis before becoming pregnant have a high risk of remission following childbirth. Our input reduces risk for these patients.

We see women who are struggling with post-natal-depression, anxiety and fears of any kind. We have also helped women who have had traumatic experiences in the past (either due to difficult labour, stillbirth or other trauma) and work with them to ensure that they can face their future life with optimism.

In sad circumstances such as stillbirth we provide bereavement counselling and this sometimes involves the whole family.

Support and supervision

We provide support to midwives and can offer telephone assistance for specific cases and situations.
