Nicotine is a very addictive substance which can be hard to quit. But, with the right
information, motivation, encouragement and techniques, quitting a nicotine habit
does not have to be long, difficult or painful.
We can explain to you the mechanisms in the brain which cause addiction, and how it is much more about the brain’s reward system than the direct effects of nicotine itself. Understanding the mechanisms behind the craving feelings can help you to anticipate and deal with cravings before they even occur.
We design an individual plan of action which is specifically designed to work for your particular circumstances. We can help you achieve the things you want to achieve - whether you prefer to cut down slowly, or quit suddenly; whether you intend to never ever smoke again, or have an occasional celebratory cigar at Christmas or a family wedding. We know that many people, when they first try to give up, relapse into old habits. We can always use your own experiences of relapse to learn more about your habit. By analysing your experiences we can better anticipate risk situations and design practical approaches so that you remain in control.
We use a combination of education, imagination, guided imagery, relaxation techniques to re-program your automatic responses and put you back in control. At the first session we will give you an indication of how many sessions you are likely to require - but you only pay for the sessions you need.
